Youth Activities (Ages 6-12)

All activities will be held from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM on the given dates UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. All events require a bagged lunch. Please include water bottles! Parents are welcome to join us as Lunch Buddies from 12:00 - 12:30 for a one dollar fee. Children may stay an extra hour for free play from 1:00 – 2:00 PM for an additional dollar. All activities are located at the Community Center. Children will be split up accordingly into smaller, age-appropriate groups when necessary.
JUMBO GAMES
Join us for JUMBO game day! It is like regular game day but BIGGER. We will have some enhanced table games such as Jenga and Kerplunk, as well as large gym games such as Alligator and Freeze Tag.
VALENTINE’S DAY BINGO!
For the first portion of this event we are hosting a “Conversation Heart” Bingo day in honor of Valentine’s Day! Small prizes will be provided. We will then hold a card/mailbox making workshop to help prepare the kids for school celebrations. Please bring material that can be shared (cardboard, construction paper, toilet paper rolls, felt, etc). Coloring, cutting and pasting tools will be provided.
TEAM BUILDING CHALLENGES
During this workshop we will reinforce the importance of teamwork with different icebreakers and team activities. Children will play question games to get to know each other and then work together to navigate through tricky obstacles while “missing” a body part or sense. We will also hold engineering competitions such as designing “penny bridges!” We will change up the challenges each time, so you may sign up for multiple sessions.
LEPRECHAUN HUNT
We are going to spice up our leprechaun traps this year with a little bit of science. Come help us make some mystical, bubbling pots of gold that no leprechaun will be able to resist. We will hide them around the Community Center and see what we can catch. Remember, if you catch a leprechaun he has to give you a gold coin!
HOMEWORK HELP AND SNACKS
It is that time of year where spring is in the air and kids struggle to stay in after school to complete their homework. We have days set aside to tutor and help school-aged kids keep on track with homework. We will take sports breaks, and children can play freely in the gym once homework is completed.
SPROUT HOUSE
With Earth Day here it is important that we take care of our planet, but Little Critter wants to remind us that “It is Earth Day Every Day.” Join us as we bring awareness by reading the book and make sprout houses out of sponges.
TELL ME A STORY
Creativity and endurance can both be appreciated during this event. We will write stories as a group by adding on to prompts pulled from a jar. We will then have a little friendly competition as we try to complete relays and obstacle courses.
RHYME TIME
Today sounds like a wonderful day for rhyming! We will play rhyming games and review some basic poetry formats using fun books and practice. We will then use our new skills to create a surprise Mother’s Day present for our special caregivers.
INCREDIBLE MOVIE TIME
The Incredibles 2 will be coming out in one year, but it appears that many kids today have not seen the first one, as it premiered in 2004 (how does that make you feel, parents?). However, The Incredibles was voted in the top 10 movies that all kids should see before they are 12, so we think it is time to do something about this dilemma. We will be showing the movie while quietly playing board games. Children have the option to play games in a different room if they wish to be louder and not watch the movie. Please bring games from home.
DR. SEUSS DAY
We cannot end the year without paying tribute to Dr. Seuss, as many of our ideas and lessons come from his stories. Today we will have a read-aloud where everyone is welcome to share their favorite Dr. Seuss book, make Cat in the Hat slime and create a Truffula Tree craft.
